A control zone (CTR) is defined as controlled airspace that extends from the surface of the earth up to a designated upper limit.
 
In our Austro Control Dronespace System, control zones are displayed in light blue around the international airports of Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Linz, Salzburg, and Vienna-Schwechat.
 
The operation of unmanned aircraft within control zones is only permitted with the approval of the relevant air traffic control unit.
 
You can easily obtain this approval by submitting a flight plan via our Austro Control Dronespace System.
 

UAS with a maximum take-off mass of less than 250 g, operated at a maximum altitude of 30 meters above ground, are exempt from the approval requirement.
 
This means that you may operate your UAS within control zones without prior approval from air traffic control.
 
However, to ensure the highest level of safety for all airspace users, we still strongly recommend using the Austro Control Dronespace System.
