Since January 1, 2024, Remote ID has been mandatory for drone operators. This requirement applies to drones in the "specific" category and in the "open" category with classification labels C1, C2, C3, C5, and C6.

The introduction of Remote ID represents an important step towards safer and more socially accepted drone operations.

What is Remote-ID?

Remote ID is an identification system that allows drones to be recognized remotely. It was introduced to enhance airspace safety and ensure greater transparency in drone operations.

What does that mean for you as an operator?

  1. Activation of Remote ID: Your drone must be equipped with an active and up-to-date remote identification system.
  2. Uploading Your Registration Number: You must store your 16-digit UAS operator registration number along with the 3-digit PIN from your registration in your drone’s Remote ID system.
  3. Retrofitting Option: If your drone does not have a built-in Remote ID system, you can purchase a Remote ID module and attach it to your drone. A list of available modules can be found here.

Which drones require Remote-ID?

  • All UAS operated in the "specific" category
  • UAS operated in the "Open" category with classification labels C1, C2, C3, C5, and C6
Exceptions:
  • Drones under 250 g (C0)
  • Drones with a C4 label that have only a basic flight control system

The introduction of Remote ID enhances airspace security and monitoring. It enables authorities to quickly identify drones and their operators, helping to reduce illegal drone use and security risks.

Access to remote ID Data

  • Citizens can view basic Remote ID information through a dedicated app.
  • Law enforcement authorities have access to the operator registration number and can link it to an individual.
