Distinctions within the "open" category: A1, A2, and A3


The "open" category is divided into three subcategories: A1, A2, and A3, each with specific operational limitations based on drone weight and proximity to people.
 
  • A1: Operation is allowed with drones under 900 g maximum takeoff weight (MTOW). Overflight of uninvolved persons is only permitted with drones under 250 g. A minimum distance of 30 meters from uninvolved persons must be maintained. 
  • A2: Drones up to 4 kg can be operated in this category. A minimum distance of 30 meters from uninvolved persons must be maintained.
  • A3: This category applies to drones up to 25 kg MTOW. Additional safety precautions must be observed: A minimum distance of 150 meters from residential, commercial, industrial, or recreational areas. No uninvolved persons are allowed in the flight area.
